WFLNG wants to triple production. Public forum May 13 well attended

Update May 14, 2026

Yesterday’s forum was well attended. Tracey Saxby had the ear of forty five Bowen Islanders, and two of our municipal councilors. Tracey gave an update about her recent trip to Kitimat BC to observe pollution the flaring at LNG Canada with a special infra red camera. People were eager to hear about the ambitions of Woodfibre LNG and the consequences that would have for the ferries. We will upload a video of the presentation soon.

This public forum was organized, because, late March 2026, Canadian federal Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, mentioned in a podcast recorded at the CERAWeek energy conference in Houston(TX) that Woodfibre LNG “has ambitions to double and triple the size of their production”.

We are taking him at his word, because according to the article by Business in Vancouver: “Woodfibre’s consultants and executives met with federal officials 38 times over the past 12 months, according to the federal Registry of Lobbyists. Five of those meetings were with Hodgson.”

So we can be sure, Woodfibre LNG has these intentions, as they are in line with the calculations Dr. Eoin Finn had done in 2015, and found that the proposed expansion of the Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre pipeline far exceeded what WFLNG needed for producing 2.1 millions tons of LNG per year. His calls were never taken seriously by the governments and agencies issuing the approvals for this project.

What can we do to stop this?
